These are all on the cards for summer short shorts, so itll be a long wait yet!




The burnt orange is set to become double layered warm patchwork tees, and the brown and yellow are for more short shorts. Summer is all about legs baby!




Vintage nylon/elastane for some retro bathers and some gorgeous new chocolate check for winter jackets and pants.
Can't wait to go proper fabric shopping and get all the meterage I'll need for the upcoming Mathilda's markets. Getting closer now!

Vintage toys as inspiration

These felt and embroidered houses are so sweet, someone has to make them.


This clown is creepy. Don't make this for a small child unless you want to give them nightmares.



Happy little lion. I'm definitely getting a lion vibe at the moment.
It's a bit too cliche, but Kingston loves them at the moment, so I might have to tweak and play to come up with a cool variant.



Every boy loves dinosaurs, and king is a little obsessed, his bed is covered with them. But I think this one would eat all the others and poop stuffing for a week, he's huuuuge!



I love how this kid is such a runner that not only is she wearing a harness, but that it has bells on it just in case she does escape.

Autumn winter research

Just doing some more research and getting inspired for designing autumn/winter 2011. Since we'll be on leave over Xmas and early Jan, I thought I'd take that time to fully design and draw up any tee prints, since I'll be interstate and can't do patterns or toilles or sewing.
Looking through all my lovely vintage sewing and craft books (yay for a long history of op shopping and hoarding), and even pulling out some photos of family from my childhood. I'm just loving all daggy 70's stuff. Even yellow and brown. Which I normally loathe. What's happening to me?!
Loads of awesome pics to come as I muse over things and share some deliciously daggy delights that might inspire also.

Op shop treasure

You know how you get that sudden magnetic pull when walking past an op shop? Yes, you know the one. Well today that pull was hard. And with only $15 in my wallet my brain fought and wanted me to walk on by, but boy am I glad I went in! Four score and all for under a tenner.

A delicious red hand knitted or crochet bag with metal chain handle and pearlescent plastic clasp. Quite roomy too, so actually usable even with toddler in tow. My foot is there for size reference, not because I think anyone really needed to see it!


Next up a pair of very cute soft pea green vintage buttons.


A very cute slide viewer in what seems to be bakelite.


An the piece de resistance, auh hoh haugh, is this old first aid kit which includes 'cellulose fibre wool' aka cotton wool, and 'essence of sal volatile' used as a 'heart stimulant for weakness,nervousness and mild smelling salts. Take 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons in a wineglass of water'
Needless to say I won't be using any of it, but it's super cute!

Just the first sample so far. Not the final product, but it's comic along. Hard to see in the pic, but it's a beautiful ice blue light weight wool with linen/cotton check trim. Perfect for a Melbourne spring.

Dear Triumph,

why do you only make this wonderful style in white or a weird flesh tone that doesn't match any real skin colour? and only in limited sizes? if this was black and available in my size i would buy lots. lots and lots. and so would vintage pin-up girls the world over. there's a hidden market there you know. sigh. maybe i can find a white on ebay somewhere and take it in...

a wrap up of the latest op-shoppy finds that now live in our house, welcome my lovelies!

two vintage board books - illustrated and printed in Japan - too cute!


A whole hoard of books for the wee one, including:
'where did i come from' from 1977
'the digging-est dog'
'how do dinosaurs clean their rooms?'
'frosty the snowman' golden book from the 60's



some great kitschy finds for the kitch-en:

the salt and pepper shakers are on long handles to shake-a shake-a over the BBQ! And the barrel comes with 12 cups. small cups though, so we figure rum?

Some cute things for the table; capsicum coasters, a wild chicken toothpick holder and some chillis that hold napkins. they look great on our laminex table!

and some lovelies for me!
A leather 50's look handbag (it has LV logos on all the brass trims, but i have no idea of it's a real one or a damn good fake-but i don't care, i just like the look of it!)
And an old leather dr's style briefcase (missing the key, phooey) but gorgeous nonetheless.

Some cute shoes for summer, both worn only once or twice, yay


And finally some cute little underthings. i'm always a bit partial to vintage lingerie, especially if you pair it with crisp clean white bonds briefs or tanks to modernise it. I've never really gone for the true vintage reproduction look-i think it's just way too costumey for my taste, but i do like to incorporate pieces into my wardrobe in fresh ways. and now that baby weight is all gone (thanks breastfeeding!), with the exception of my enormous norgs of course, i can start wearing cute clothes again, woohoo! just in time for summer too, yay!
