Mathilda's market stall mark 1

Ok so these are only iPhone pics, but I'm yet to get the good ones off the big puter.
This was our stall at Mathilda's in Adelaide over the weekend. Some gorgeous vintage suitcases and books to help merchandise our wares, and some last minute signage. Needless to say we now know what we're up against and have big plans for the Caulfield market day. And don't have to fit it all in our luggage!
We had some lovely feedback about our stall, so thanks again to everyone who came, we can't wait to do it again!

crazy preggo style book from the 80's

just had to share the insanity of this book i found at the op shop, it had me cacking myself for ages.
DSC05329

DSC05336
rubberized overalls? in bright yellow? aka a fisherman? um, no. not even when you're a 12 foot tall model.

DSC05335
not only would i not dare wear this when pregnant, i don't think i would leave the house if i wasn't preggo.

DSC05334
for those of us too fat for normal clothes, hey, 'sew up a sheet'!
actually i think i have the perfect apricot floral set for that...

DSC05333
again, even if you're 12foot tall, this is NOT a good look. ever.

DSC05330
oh, that's what i'm missing! shoulder pads! in everything! that'll immediately make people look away from my huge bump and keep everything in proportion.or not.

DSC05331
now i admit that the right hand look seems to be back in fashion, garish as it is, but that's no excuse to wear the left hand look AT ALL. did this lady even look in the mirror?

DSC05332
yeaaah, workers overalls on Kylie in the 80's are one thing, but when you're pregnant?
oh, i see, just turn them into cut offs, and that makes it ok? 'cause i'm more inclined to show my dimply thighs if i'm wearing a boiler suit. and what about trying to pee in one of those things? when you need to go 27 times an hour, a onesie that you have to completely remove whilst in a small stall that you barely fit in when pregnant? ooh, it's MY outfit of choice!

yes, i have a dry, snarky sense of humour.

Audrey's dress - better pics!

I had to get the recipient to give me some pics as in my haste to finish it i forgot to take some myself! so here is the lovely Audrey's dress in full:
audrey-1
audrey-2

the main body is a lovely soft rayon blend woven, with a blend of brown and grey threads to give it a lovely sheen. the yoke is a vintage rayon sateen scarf, cut on the corner to keep the pattern going around the yoke. and some lovely green vintage buttons to finish it off.
thankfully the dress was well received!

folded sleeve dress-complete!

So after unpicking and re-cutting, fusing and re-sewing the neckband, i forgot i needed to add gape darts to the pattern to take out the excess. gah! too lazy to do it all over a third time, i just darted the band in six places and left it at that. i'll fix the pattern up so there won't be any seam lines on the final product, but damn, i'm not bothering if it's really just a trial dress for me to wear.
And i spent over an hour trying to find a spot in our house with the right lighting to take a bloody pic! so i apologise for the crappiness of them, and the fact that you can see the kitchen sink in the background, but by then i was over it! clearly i'm going to have to set up a nice corner that has some good lighting at some stage.

Folded sleeve dress on the machine

Just a little left to go till it's done. Of course I was lazy and
didn't fuse the neck facing and it stretched and so now I need to
unpick it and redo it. Damn. Oh well lesson learned.
The fabric is just sub- some stash bits and pieces but the plaid will
be nice for winter I think and the chocolate works well with either
reds or jades which are my Dave colours so I'll definately wear it
which is good. Big pics once it's done- hopefully tonight or tomorrow
if kingston lets me!

Capelet

Capelet, originally uploaded by cherry_rockette.

Currently on the mannequin and in development just in calico right now
but will end up in more drapey fabric so the pleats hang better. A
cute alternative to a cardi for autumn.

Faded glory

Faded glory, originally uploaded by cherry_rockette.

Just a snippet from my current inspiration board. Loving vintage
planes and a 40's army feel. Mustard, jade, cool uniform blues & the
ubiquitous red becoming sanguine.
Simpler silhouettes, a cleaner form, but with unexpected details of
fractures and broken lines. The sweet beauty in the faded glory.
What's inspiring *you* lately?

busy busy busy

Too busy to post this week gone. In the good way, thankfully.
*My mum came over from Tassie on the weekend to spend some time with the King, which was great. A really nice relaxing day. Having Kingston has definitely improved our relationship a great deal,I think because we now have a shared topic of interest we can talk non-stop about!
*Finally managed to vacuum the house, which was starting to grow things I'm sure. (dull but necessary-next I need to mop up all the vomit spills, at least most are just milk from King ha aaha )
*Been emailing back and forth with a long lost friend from way back, who now has 2 kids, her youngest was born within the week of King which is pretty cool, so talking baby shite lots.
*Personal training on wed nights, with these guys: next level Gary is fit as fuck and a lovely guy, so slowly getting my body back, which is nice. (currently a slim size 10, with huge norgs, but I've lost 5cm off my circumferences so far...wooo!)
*Best of all though, I have actually managed to do some making! Nothing on the range yet, I've been procrastinating on the patternmaking front, but some little things for king, which I'm happy about. I did cut out 10 size small minky nappies for him, leave them in my 'to do' pile, and then discover 4 days later he's grown out of smalls....bloody growth spurts! he weighs 7.01kg now! so i'll just leave them until the next one comes along, and they can have them.

Ok, ok, pictures, right? who goes to blogs to actually read anyway?!?

A taggy blankie for King. (the button is bigger than a film canister, so safe if the rick rack breaks), the back is minky (sooooft), and the monkey faces are great, as King is right into faces at the moment.

A grandpa cap and slippers for King. I had a cap that was toddlers size (52cm) and i copied the pattern and then graded it down to 00-0 size (49cm). I also added some elastic at the back (under the lining), so it will grip his head until he grows into it. And a cute rocket pip label.
The shoes also have a soft leather sole and will fit until 6months, so he should get some wear out of them I hope! I just followed this pattern.

I also made a new playmat, as I wanted one with the overhanging bits to hang toys from. (King looooves hitting things), so I cut up a pop-up laundry basket and used the heavy wire from that. covered them in some hand made gingham bias tape, and made some 'stoppers' for the emds with leather inside to preven the wire from poking through. the rest is just the usual sewing etc...
Apparently it works! Apologies for the shitty lighting, but we couldn't wait one second to try it out!
