Aspergers and me

Yes, well, many people in my real life are aware of me being on the spectrum, but after being asked to write about my experiences for Essential Baby, I thought it's only fair if I share here also. I have never been ashamed of it, I actually found diagnosis quite liberating because there was a real reason I didn't feel right and it wasn't just 'stress', enabling me to move forward in my life.
If you're interested, the full article is here: Aspergers; through adult eyes.

  1. well, if we're going to be honest, i have an anxiety disorder which means i can't drive anywhere but in my my big block (ie: within a four km radius) but mostly i seem normal! i'm all for telling people - it's about time people realised there's degrees of normalcy. i will read the article now :)

  2. Thank you for sharing. I have a friend whose husband and teenage son both have asbergers and a daughter with bad diabetes. I am still trying to work out how to take him as that lovely face and smile would normally indicate flirting but I don't believe it is. I guess it is part of not knowing how to relate to people properly which I also have problems with. My ex used to tell me not to believe everything he said and others tell me I am too trusting but if everyone was totally honest we would know where we stand wouldn't we? Cherrie

  3. I realised I never told you what a great story this was that you told. My daughter suffers with aspergers, and the way you have described yourself it makes me wonder if I do myself ;) xxx
